For the past few years, I have really loved the idea of being that old guy with a weird amount of gold. However, I never really found a way to accumulate it monthly on an automatic basis. For a while I would just save a few bucks and then inconsistently buy it when I felt like it. So when I found Acre Gold’s monthly subscription in March of 2025, I was pretty excited.
The idea was pretty straightforward:

You choose how much you want to save and when you cross the threshold a gold bar is sent to you. I chose the $100 – 5gram option, and was excited about the option that I admittedly didn’t do much research into the costs. Absolutely, my fault.
I then paid from March until November when I started to think, “where the fuck is my gold?”

That is when I noticed that they were charging me a 6.67% vig since it ws on my credit card. While I thought that was weird, it is the norm these days, but it only led me to dig deeper, and that’s when I got angry.
Acre’s gold price on January 28, 2026, for 5g is:

While the price from JM Bullion is $1,009.18. Holy shit! This company was:
- Charging me a Monthly fee on my CC
- Keeping the float on the money
- AND THEN CHARGING MORE THAN COMPETITORS!
At the time I started going bonkers (November of 2025) I could have went to JM Bullion and bought the same bar post-fees and not spot price for less than the $900 that I had sent this company! Obviously, as I write this gold is still on its historical bull run. I am also pretty sure, but am not going to spend time to prove it that I probably should have gotten a bar sometime in August before the hockey stick up.
What Happened After I Cancelled My Subscription with Acre?
At first I couldn’t get anyone to respond to me! What quasi-financial company has a 24 to 48 email only response policy?! They are holding how many customers’ money? Get a chat going! Have a 1800 number! Something.
Undeterred and very angry, I started commenting on every social media ad that I got shoved my way (which was a lot) and I also started pinging their DMs on Facebook and Instagram. Still annoyed at the lack of speed in responding I challenged the subscription with American Express. That got their attention!
Within a few hours of doing that I finally got some responses. They wanted me to reverse the challenge and then they would give me my money back (minus the $20 cancellation fee, my fuck, another fee!). Absolutely not, I said they can settle with me after Amex does it’s investigation. I got the $400 back because of the time cut off with Amex’s challenge system, and then got the rest of the money back from Acre after that. 60 days later!
Would I recommend Acre – ABSOLUTELY NOT
